What keeps a household running when the days are too short. A home cook, a nanny, a driver, a tutor, someone to run errands and paperwork, a guard for the compound. You give the rhythm and the hours — a few hours, every day, or weekends only — and the person answers with a price. These are the trades where someone comes into your home and stays: childcare, house guarding and home cooking therefore call for two reachable people who vouch for them, and we do call. A driver shows a licence.

Care
Someone beside a person who should not be left alone: an older parent, someone with reduced mobility, a return from hospital, the first nights after a birth, or simply company to an appointment. These are not medical services, and that is a firm limit: the provider is there, helps and keeps company — they do not treat, give no care, and never handle medication, not even to open a pill box. They may remind someone of the time and note that it was done. Everyone in this family gives two references we call, and follows a short training they sign before their first job. In an emergency you call a doctor or the emergency services, not Sarréh.

The appointment you have been putting off for a month, finally booked — at your place or at the professional’s salon. Hair, braids, make-up, manicure, pedicure and facials: you say what you want, the length, the time you have, and you get a price before anything starts. Many work both ways — a salon and home visits for a wedding — and you choose. Those who keep an establishment give its exact address, which our team may come and see, and which you only discover once the job is paid for. Massage, however, is only practised in a registered salon: no home visits at launch.

A wedding, a christening, a birthday are built with people you can count on. DJs, caterers, photographers, videographers, decorators, masters of ceremony or planners: you give the date, the place and the number of guests, and each answers with a priced offer you compare before choosing. This is the family booked furthest ahead, and where holding the money matters most: the amount stays with Sarréh instead of being paid months early, and the app shows both sides where it stands. Photos of past work stand in for a diploma: look at them, they say more than a certificate.

The problem
A neighbour knows someone, who knows someone. When it works, it is perfect. When it does not — the job is botched, the price doubles at the end, the person never comes back — there is no recourse, and no way to warn the next customer.
And there is the opposite problem, which is talked about less: a good professional with no network takes years to become known. Their work is not enough; they need to be recommended.
What we change
We want opening your door to a stranger to stop being a gamble, and a serious professional to stop needing the right contact in order to make a living.
In practice: the money you send does not go to the provider, it stays with Sarréh. It is only released once the job is finished and confirmed. You are not paying someone you do not know and hoping they turn up; they are not working and hoping to be paid. Neither side has to trust first — which is exactly what word of mouth could never offer.
We are starting in Cameroon. Other countries in West and Central Africa will follow.
